West Plains is a city in and the county seat of Howell County, Missouri, United States. The population was 12,184 at the 2020 census. == History == The history of West Plains can be traced back to 1832, when settler Josiah Howell (after whom Howell County is named) created the first settlement in the region known as Howell Valley. West Plains was so named because the settlement was on a prairie in a westerly direction from the nearest town, Thomasville. The Courthouse Square Historic District, Elledge Arcade Buildings, International Shoe Company Building, Mount Zion Lodge Masonic Temple, W. J. and Ed Smith Building, and West Plains Bank Building are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. === The American Civil War === The location of West Plains led to nearly constant conflict due to the proximity to what was then the border between the Union and Confederacy. West Plains was largely burned to the ground, and Howell County as a whole was devastated. No major battles occurred in West Plains or Howell County, but much of the devastation came from constant guerrilla warfare. Confederate Brigadier General James Haggin McBride gave residents an ultimatum to either join the Confederate army or to flee the area. An overwhelming majority of Howell County residents chose to flee, and over 90% of the population had fled by the time the war was over.

We’re not from the area. The guys at Mr. Dent worked on my truck after an accident in May of ‘23 and did a fantastic job. We came back to the area in Dec of’24 and I stopped in just to ask a question about a headlight module and Jimmy insisted they take a look at it instead of just telling me how to get to it like other places would. He also noticed the bug shield wasn’t on. (it had come off in a car wash) NOT Mr Dent’s fault! I had a new one with me but was waiting to get farther south and warmer weather to make sure it adhered. Again Jimmy insisted I let them install it for me inside the shop where it was warm. I did and again, perfect job done. These guys operate on the principle of a job well done and customer service and support. Thanks again Jimmy for all your help!

We started the New Year off right. On our way home we had with a side collision with a deer! The deer almost went through the drivers side window with his huge antlers. This is our main vehicle and knew we needed it repair as soon as possible. After calling Mr. Dent, they told us it would be March before they could get the parts. This wasn’t on them but rather due to a manufacturing shortage. They were so great and kept us well informed. They did an amazing job. They made sure the vehicle was cleaned inside and out before we got it back. I hope desperately we don’t have to use Mr Dent again but if we do I’ll be using them again!
